How to inhale a child in order to achieve measurable benefits?
Inhalations are indicated at:
- upper respiratory tract infections
- chronic sinusitis,
- bad hygiene of the upper respiratory tract.
They help moisturize the mucous membrane, which is especially swollen in winter and less protected against the invasion of viruses and bacteria.
The cause of many problems is often dried air in the apartment. Many parents do not realize that airing alone is not enough (although it is very important and you should ventilate the apartment at least twice a day). During the heating season, it is also necessary to humidify the air at home: by traditional methods: hanging wet towels on a radiator, placing containers with water on radiators or by using a special air humidifier. However, do not overdo it with humidifying the air (humidity can be assessed using a weather station measuring this value outside and inside - the optimum value is 55-70%), because it can promote the development of mold and bacteria.
Attention! When humidifying the air, remember to clean all parts of the humidifier. This should be done once a day. It is important not to allow mold to grow, which is particularly bad in an apartment where an allergic person resides.
How to inhale a child?
First of all, you can give it yourself saline solution. We give all medicines after consulting a doctor.
The younger infant should be in a reclining position, and the older: sitting. A mask is the best, adapted to the needs of a small child. If your child is uneasy during inhalation, wait a while and try again later. Do not force your baby! A crying and snatching child will not benefit from inhalation.
In addition to inhalation, it is also very important patting the babyto force coughing up the secretions.
After inhalation, especially when using medicines, it is recommended washing the baby's face. In addition, unfold the nebulizer and also wash its plastic parts with water and detergent (dishwashing liquid). After drying properly, assemble the device and can be used again.

What to use for inhalation / nebulization?
For inhalation on your own, you can use saline (available at any pharmacy) or iodine-bromine saline mist. Saline 0.9% NaCl in the youngest can be diluted with distilled water for injection in a 1: 1 ratio. A saline solution of 0.45% NaCl will then be formed, indicated for moisturizing the mucous membranes.
Herbal inhalations - not using a nebulizer
It can also be used after consulting a doctor for slow inhalation (above the bowl mentioned above) oils: thyme, anise, fir, pine, eucalyptus, which have an antiseptic and expectorant and bronchodilatory effect. In children over the age of seven, you can also use special preparations (herbal mixtures) available at the pharmacy, for example Inhalol.
Why is it not allowed to pour essential oils used in slow inhalations into the nebulizer? Unfortunately, they can cover the holes in the machine's nozzles.
A contraindication to herbal inhalation is allergy to any oil.
