Cradle cap in infants - what does it look like?

Cradle cap in infants manifests yellow scales on the scalp, resembling greasy dandruff. It got its name from a fontanelle, next to which it usually sits. It happens that cradle cap, apart from the head, is also observed on the eyebrows, near the nose or even under a diaper.

Cradle cap - when does it appear?

Cradle cap usually occurs in the youngest infants. Appears in the third or sixth week of life, and most often disappears by itself after the child is three months old. However, the norm is to convert this condition to older infants and even 2-year-olds.

What to do?

Although cradle cap is a harmless change, it should not be ignored, because it makes the skin difficult to breathe and can lead to a hard shell on the head. Removal of such a change is difficult and in some cases can be painful for the child.

That is why it is worth starting treatment as soon as possible.

How to care for the skin?

Fifteen minutes before bathing, you should lubricate the skin with olive and put on a breathable cap. Then gently brush the scales (never scratch them!). During the bath, wash the head and dry it with a towel.

Lubricating the scalp with olive should be repeated until the cradle cap disappears.

From home methods it is also worth trying peeling prepared from oat flakes soaked in warm water. By applying such a slurry to the scalp and massaging the skin, you can get a delicate exfoliating and softening effect.

It is worth remembering not to overheat the child. In this way, the symptoms of cradle cap intensify and the duration of treatment increases.
